Wow, Barack! But where now?
Barack Obama is doing what is supposed to be impossible. For him to beat the Clinton machine in South Carolina by nearly 30% is a stunning victory, even though a win was basically assured. Obama deserves a lot of praise for this. He leads the delegate count by 15 (msnbc.com) -- meaning that he not only gained momentum, but also continues to inch forward on that truly critical measure toward the nomination. In nine days, though, he will face a tough challenge. Obama needs to do well February 5th. While New York was always going to be a gimme for Clinton, Obama is trailing in Califnoria (RCP poll average), which has 370 delegates at stake. He is also behind in Florida, which is more important for the Republicans but might still provide momentum in the Democratic race. Obama's an impressive candidate who inspires even those who disagree with him, but he faces a long road ahead of him despite his victory in South Carolina.
